In this gripping Dutch miniseries, a cross-section of individuals from very different backgrounds struggle to stay alive after a catastrophic superstorm puts half of Holland under water. After the storm passes, those who survived must confront the fact that nothing in their lives will ever be the same again. As their journeys unfold over six superb episodes, we glimpse moments of joy, sorrow, rage, kindness, and most importantly, resilience.
1. Dike Ring 14
With a once-in-a-lifetime megastorm on its way towards Holland’s coastal region, a group of strangers in its path prepare to face it in very different ways. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister and his colleagues must decide whether to evacuate millions from the area. But loose lips threaten to cause a major scandal.
2. Code Red
As the storm floods the region, the Prime Minister grapples with his failure to evacuate. Meanwhile, camped out in their attic, Sonja and her family try to reach emergency services hoping to get help finding Femke. And in the prison where her husband is being held, the inmates are growing increasingly desperate.
3. Silence After the Storm
25,000 people are dead and 150,000 are missing. Sonja and Manu take a boat to look for Femke, while Samir forms a surprising alliance at the prison. The Prime Minister’s decision to visit a camp for the displaced turns out to be a mistake. Marion and Naomi struggle to come to grips with their new status as refugees and the fate of the rest of their family is finally revealed.
4. On Dry Land
The Prime Minister heads to an economic summit to negotiate for relief funds that come with a heavy price. Samir and Ronnie pick up Kimmy and Mr. Stein but must struggle to find help when she goes into shock. Marion and Sonja are both confronted with life-changing news.
5. A Warm Heart
Ronnie is reunited with Sonja, and learns what happened to Femke. His plan to leave with his family is met with resistance from Magnus. While the Prime Minister recovers from his episode, deals are made behind his back. Samir heads home and Mr. Stein considers adopting Kimmy. Tensions rise at Willem's farm where Robert, Marion, Naomi and Britt are staying.
6. Netherlands Above Water
The Prime Minister fights to ensure no tragedy ever befalls the Netherlands again, but faces a reckoning for his decision not to evacuate. Mr. Stein searches for Kimmy after learning that her mother has been found. Robert and Naomi and their daughters map out different futures. Ronnie makes plans to run away to Spain with Sonja and Kevin.
just didn't like the characters or story.
extraordinarily well done!
That was very good. Even with subtitles, like the rest have said, it was easy to follow along. It had me hooked in from the very beginning and even though it went back and forth through the different families, it was easy to keep up with what was happening. Although there is a lot of heart break in this, it caused a lot of strength to grow from it.
This movie kept me glued to the screen, in a foreign language with subtitles. I was completely absorbed through to the end. A must see considering global warming and rising sea levels. We should make it mandatory for our politicians watch and start a conversation, work on plans for our country. Yes, as one reviewer stated about Katrina...the smell, bodies & creatures in the water. Some things don’t need to be shown or mentioned, it is assumed considering the devastation.
I live in the states and remember hurricane Katrina they really didn’t do a great job at showing the horrific conditions like dead body’s floating and the sea creatures that would be in that water as well as the smell and disease that would be in it as well. Where are the people that would have been desolate ? Standing on rooftops for days. No food or water. Sick people. I guess the fantasy is that Europe would be better prepared maybe
