The Case of Sally Challen

The Case of Sally Challen

Directed by Rowan Deacon, Lizzie Kempton

Jailed for life in 2011 for killing her husband, Sally Challen was convicted on the unanimous decision of the jury. The result provoked little surprise among her friends and family, yet evidence later revealed that Challen was the victim of coercive control from her husband, who would manage her social life and spending. With fewer than 10% of appeals ever quashing a conviction, this documentary is a compelling case for the need for greater nuance in the law and its reporting.

Very good docu about abuse, control, mental health, and breaking points. I have seen and experienced how all these can make a person do something that they would never normally do. You feel for all parties involved and also hope that the court recognizes the victims of this situation. Well made.

Good story but way too long. Could have been edited down a lot.

I'm so sad about Sally. It's really scary to be abused. It's nearly impossible to walk away. I'll be sure to pray for Sally. This is a good documentary. Well made. Real.

If the genders were swapped, this would be considered a deeply offensive documentary. A man was beaten up dsath with a hammer to the head. This documentary spends its time bismirching his character and sympathizing with the woman who bashed in his skull, saying he rolled his eyes when she talked too much, and preferred her to wear certain clothes. Ridiculous hit piece on a man who can't defend himself based on the words of his killer. Disgusting.

Very well done. Sally is such a perfect example of what years of abuse does to the mind and soul. Glad she is home and with her boys again, with an opportunity to heal.
