Shoah - The First Era: Part 1

Shoah - The First Era: Part 1

Directed by Claude Lanzmann

**This title is currently unavailable.** Over a decade in the making, Claude Lanzmann's nine-hour-plus opus is a monumental investigation of the unthinkable: the murder of more than six million Jews by the Nazis. Using no archival footage, Lanzmann instead focuses on first-person testimonies (of survivors and former Nazis, as well as other witnesses), employing a circular, free-associative method in assembling them. The intellectual yet emotionally overwhelming SHOAH is not a film about excavating the past but an intensive portrait of the ways in which the past is always present, and it is inarguably one of the most important cinematic works of all time.

In the first section of his riveting Holocaust documentary, Claude Lanzmann interviews death camp survivors and a former official at Treblinka.

Epic failure of humanity! This period of time has always had a nightmarish fascination of what other human beings have been through. Also how a human being can treat another, it saddens me that it is morally possible and it should scare anyone. This should be a lesson to humanity, a promise to never let it happen again, sadly it is not. How does this still happen today? How are we not pleading with future generations to avoid this in their future? My heart hurts after watching these, I will not forget!
