Martin Scorsese executive produced this engrossing think piece about the ways rapid development and overpopulation is putting our planet in jeopardy. Based on the best-selling book "A Short History of Progress," this provocative documentary explores the concept of progress in our modern world, guiding us through a sweeping but detailed survey of the major "progress traps" facing our civilization.

This is an important film on the terrible power of the discourse of progress and the devastating consequences of understanding the world in purely economic terms. Let us act before we all die of externalities!
It's not an exaggeration to say that this might be the most important film of the decade. Extremely lucid, balanced, and vast in its scope--grasping so effectively such a geographically and historically global perspective on human civilisation and reducing it to its natural elements with such concision. One of those films that could make a difference...if only enough people saw it.
I will use this in my Free Enterprise class this semester. :)
Super smart, balanced, rational and pretty too.
Brilliant! Vaclav Smil is the greatest.
