Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Cave of Forgotten Dreams

Directed by Werner Herzog

Acclaimed documentarian Werner Herzog netted over 25 awards and nominations for his 2011 study of the 32,000-year-old Chauvet cave paintings in Southern France. Granted special permission by the French authorities to bring cameras inside the caves, Herzog attempts to unravel some of the mysteries presented by the shockingly advanced paintings of animals and people, which challenge established art historical and anthropological concepts.

Incredible photography. A slow paced and philosophical contemplation of the meaning of the Chauvet paintings to modern humans.
