Afterschool |
A must-watch for anyone interested in youth culture and how video and new technology has radically changed our most basic social customs. AFTERSCHOOL is the feature debut of keenly observant 24-year-old Antonio Campos.
"I wanted to examine a community that has become accustomed to an almost abnormally sheltered, safe existence that has to confront the sudden impact of a violent death on its own grounds," Campos writes.
Robert is an American student at an elite East Coast prep school who happens to videotape the tragic deaths of two classmates. Their lives become memorialized as part of an AV assignment designed to speed up the campus-wide healing process, but the result triggers paranoia and unease among students and teachers.
A riveting look at the dark side of youth in the media age. AFTERSCHOOL was an official selection of the Cannes, Berlin, SXSW and New York Film Festivals, and was nominated for 2 Gotham awards and the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. |
